A demographic catastrophe is occurring before our eyes. It began in certain developed countries and is rapidly spreading to the entire world. So few children are being born that humanity is unable to reproduce itself. Leading British demographer Paul Morland... claims that this trend will lead to devastating consequences — a shortage of labor, a pension crisis, increasing national debt, and a deficit of ideas and innovations coming from the youth. Developed countries may temporarily soften the worst consequences through immigration, but many countries, including those from which immigrants come, will age before they grow wealthy. Based on statistical data, the author describes our dreary future, explains its causes, and proposes ways to rectify the situation. If we do not radically change our attitude toward parenting and embrace the values of childbearing (pronatalism), Morland asserts, planet Earth will soon become uninhabitable.
